Name: Candace L. Crowhurst
Who are you in 90 characters or less? Founder of The Virtual Studio. Female-Founder, Entrepreneur, Leader in Social Impact, Fitness Enthusiast.
Social Handles and/or Website: Instagram:@thevirtualstudio.io, @caligirlaroundtheworld
Why do you teach/train?
Yelling is my therapy, seriously. I was in finance for a long time, I wasn’t healthy, drinking old fashions & eating steak to fit in (I hate Whiskey). After a lovely #metoo adventure I looked around and realized I wasn’t the person I loved anymore. I went back to teaching and got my soul back. My classes are fun, team-oriented w/ a focus on making your body last a lifetime.
What classes do you normally teach / what is your training expertise?
I’m a Pilates instructor. I have a background in ballet, gymnastics, & cheerleading. I love teaching proper form, consistent alignment, & foundational practice.
How have you adapted your business to still inspire people at home?
I started a company! The Virtual Studio was created during COVID-19 and a need in the community to stay happy & healthy. At a time when the market was flooded with noisy content & radical life changes, we found the need to provide normalcy, connection, and community. This is a time for us to come together, share our resources and knowledge, support with our different strengths, uplift each other’s spirits, and grow both individual and communal health.
Are you currently offering virtual classes? If so, when and how can people join?
Yes, please join us at TheVirtualStudio.io providing access to high-quality online group fitness classes to people regardless of age, experience, or pocket depth. Grab a friend, roommate, family member, and let’s move!
** This project is a donation-based, organically grown fitness community, and you are welcome to join us no matter your economic situation.
What advice would you give to other fitness professionals to get through these times?
Ask for help, don’t be afraid to fail, and find someone who can help you with the skills you do not have (yet). I asked instructors I knew & trusted to join me in a new adventure. We all bring something different to the table. We share risks, resources, skills & clients. We help each other learn something new every day.
How can fitness professionals lift each other up right now?
Be there for each other! Go to their classes & give constructive feedback. Invite them to host a class on your platform, call them on Facetime, listen to them, if they are struggling with something in their business sit w/ them while they get it done. Instructors are notorious extroverts, incredibly active & caring people. This is a HUGE change of lifestyle for us, be the (friend) trainer you would want.
What is your favorite non-fitness outlet to cope with the current stress of the world?
Honestly, I think I started this business as an outlet. It keeps me busy & learning something new every day.
How are you giving yourself #permissiontopause?
I learned to ride a bike lol, mostly because I hate running.
